Sophie Bowen is an artist and designer-maker based in Bristol working with natural dyes, drawing and hand embroidery. She studied BA Drawing at Falmouth University followed by completing a Masters in Textiles at Bath Spa University.  

Sophie’s work is a meditation on the idea that truth comes from observation in nature: the influence gained from experiencing nature’s seasonal shifts, patterns of regrowth, irregularity and temporariness. This is intertwined with a process-led practice where Sophie allows elements of her work to emerge and unfold organically and in its own time, facilitating a contemplative thinking-through-making approach.

Drawing and mark-making is at the heart of Sophie’s creative practice using it as an intuitive and contemplative tool to create a sense of movement and flow. Marks made initially with brush and ink are translated through a variety of textile processes.
